More articles.Today, we’re excited to announce that Skywind, the project that is re-imagining The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in the Skyrim Creation Engine, is coming to the Nexus! In the past, Nexus discussion on the project has been moderated due to Bethesda’s stance that exchanging assets between their titles is not a situation they can condone or legally support. So for the past three years, the Skywind developers have been working tirelessly to rectify this by creating brand-new models, textures, heightmaps and audio. Literally hundreds of volunteers and more than an estimated hundred-thousand hours have gone into meeting this requirement. The results are stunning, to say the least. Due to the incredible amount of work that's gone into recreating Morrowind from scratch, we are now able to happily support this project along with Bethesda.
The team is best known for its Skywind project, which seeks to remaster the 2002 The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind on the 2011 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim game engine, known as the Creation Engine. The Renewal Project began with Morroblivion, a Morrowind remaster on the 2006 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion engine, prior to Skyrim ' s release. The mod was publicly available on the team's website. If you’re just now hearing about it or if you need a refresher, then please check out their latest developer video, “The Making of Skywind IV”. It’s a fantastic look at 4 years of hard work and a testament to the dedication of the team. Much like modders have made all Elder Scrolls games the long-lasting successes that they are, the Skywind developers are hoping that the modding heroes here at the Nexus will join their ranks to become part of the team building Skywind as well. There are many varied openings for contributors, representing a wide range of skill-sets that I’m sure many of you who are reading this can fulfill.Though there is no release date for Skywind yet, with your support we can help them achieve this ambitious endeavor. Every contribution is a step towards this goal, so if you think you might have some time and skills to offer, please visit them at the and fill in the volunteer form to get started! As it nears release, Skywind will be treated as its own title here at the Nexus.
We’ll be opening forums and file repositories specific to Skywind with the intention that past and future great Skyrim mods can be built or patched to work within the updated framework that Skywind will offer. More info on that later. For now, be sure to check out their site and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any progress. So get out there, contribute, and make us proud. Have a good one! Gx240 wrote: Yet another mod that's going to be ruined by terrible amateur voice acting.
There are few things that can kill immersion in an otherwise sublime RPG like finding yourself suddenly listening to stilted and overacted lines recorded by some guy in his basement. (And it's even worse when they try to do accents.)I'm really disappointed because I was looking forward to playing this until now. For the life of me I have never been able to figure out how this happens, but for some reason a lot of modders and mod teams really can't listen to their own voice acting objectively and realize how atrocious it is.SikSikSikki wrote: It's not easy finding professional voice actors that will work for free. Skywind does still have a certain standard for quality, though, that you seemed to have overlooked.
Don't expect a Skyblivion beta or release until 2018It's like a Daggerfall through my heart.Robert PurcheseSenior Staff WriterA new 2017 video shows the ambitious Skyblivion project - The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion recreated as a Skyrim mod - going from strength to strength. Apparently the increased attention has attracted more voluntary help so progress has sped as a result. But, whew, Skyblivion is taking on a lot. Hardly a small game, Oblivion, is it? When on earth are we going to be able to play this?
I asked the Skyblivion team for an update. 'At this point the base game is done,' Kyle Rebel, project PR, told me. 'this means Oblivion's game has been completely recreated and can be explored freely.'
However,' he added, 'this is still a 1:1 recreation. As you can see in the video we are currently overhauling the world of Oblivion to bring it up to par with, for instance, Skyrim's landscape and interior design. We do this by going over every single interior and exterior location and rebuilding them using the new assets and concept art as our guide. Here is a piece of that, rather fetching, art.' We're getting closer every day. We recently made a breakthrough in the questing department.
and all other departments are chugging along simultaneously. But it's hard to give any ETAs on when every department will conclude their work.' All in all, I can't really give release dates but our current goal is to have either a beta or full release in 2018.' It's possible, however, something could be playable this year - something earlier, more raw - but only if lots of voluntary contributions pour in. A screenshot of the new weather effects in Skyblivion.Skyblivion is a mod for the original version of Skyrim from 2011, although a version is planned for the newer Skyrim Special Edition.
The mod will be free but requires you not only own Skyrim but also Oblivion.Gameplay-wise, the team is trying to recreate Oblivion as authentically as possible, which means changing some Skyrim systems rather than the other way around.' Oblivion had a lot of neat mechanics which didn't make a return in Skyrim (quick spellcasting for example) and since we plan on capturing the Oblivion feel as closely as we can we are going to be bringing back some classic Oblivion mechanics players have missed in Skyrim,' said Rebel. 'Now, we aren't recreating every mechanic. But anything that we think will enhance the gameplay experience should make a return in one form or another.
