We finally got at the new Star Wars Battlefront game Wednesday, but one of the biggest questions fans have had since DICE rebooted Battlefront remains unanswered: Where is Galactic Conquest mode? Star Wars Battlefront 2: Galactic Conquest still unconfirmedwas a beloved single and multiplayer mode from the original Star Wars Battlefront games. Two opponents would square off in a turn-based galactic conflict where regions were won and lost based on victory in battle, with different factions having different units and abilities. When DICE rebooted the Battlefront name in 2015, fans of the original were disappointed the game didn't have Galactic Conquest at all.So far, there's been no indication Galactic Conquest will make its return to Battlefront II.
In fact, a DICE employee kinda-sorta implied in December that it wouldn't be in the game. Of course, Battlefront II doesn't seem like it will be lacking for game modes. The first game's multiplayer action returns alongside a new single-player campaign, so even if Galactic Conquest is out, you'll have things to do. Still, if they're going to confusingly give the game the same title as an older, beloved version, they should throw the fans a bone here. I'll be honest - I saw the list of things I'd need to download and decided not to bother, even though I play through a solid 99% of mods that come through here and are hosted. And they're not even all in the same place, which is another big minus.Not that any of that should take away from the (relative) complexity of the mod - not many mods use modifications to Galactic Conquest, so it's nice to see a new one (although you would have to remove either KotOR Galactic Conquest or the Dark Times II Campaign to use this).The only other real criticism I'd offer would be that there's no theme to the hodgepodge of maps this supports - it's like the author just found as many maps as he could and said 'and this one, and this one, and this one.' Galactic Conquest, as it is, is long and boring enough and just adding more planets isn't a bonus.So takeaways - neat technical accomplishment, probably worth a try if you can get over having to download 25 different things in addition to this one.
